Obituary for Helen Katherine Svitak

Helen Katherine Svitak, age 94 of Norfolk formerly of Stanton, died Tuesday January 30, 2018 at Norfolk Veterans Home in Norfolk. She was born July 19, 1923 in Randolph, Nebraska the daughter of Henry and Minnie (Rathman) Lienemann. She attended Pierce County rural school near Randolph. Helen babysat for the Palmer family twins, Sally and Sandy, who later where Junior Bridesmaids at her wedding. She worked as a nurses aid at Lutheran Hospital in Norfolk, at a Norfolk Bakery from 1943 to 1945, and worked at a Norfolk laundry mat until 1952.

On April 22, 1952 Helen married Lambert James Svitak at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norfolk. The couple made their home on a farm north of Howells where they raised 6 children. Helen worked for Howells Poultry Plant for Mary Wragge for several years. The couple retired and moved in to Stanton in 1987. In February 2007 Helen entered the Norfolk Veterans Home. She enjoyed the many activities there and like listening to the bands that played there. She also enjoyed putting puzzles together.

She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Stanton; St. Peter’s Altar Society; Former member of the Last Man’s Club of Howells American Legion Post #155 Auxiliary.

Helen is survived by her 6 children Pamela and Dan Fuerhoff of Norfolk; Douglas and Ardith Svitak of Howells; Diane and Myron Hassler of Stanton; Paulette and Scott Swenson of Oakland; Betty and Keith Vering of Howells; Eugene and Kay Svitak of Dodge; 16 Grandchildren; 22 Great Grandchildren; 1 Brother Robert Lienemann of Omaha; 1 Sister Joyce and Robert Roth of Pierce.

Preceding her in death are her parents, husband Lambert on June 22, 2013; 1 grandson Joseph Vering; 1 Brother Lloyd at age 5; 1 Sister-In-Law Bonnie Lienemann; 1 nephew Keith Lienemann.

Visitation: 3:00 - 8:00 P.M. with 7:30 P.M. Rosary all Thursday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church under direction of Shultz-Vogel-Johnson Mortuary - Stanton

Music: Organist: St. Peter’s Church Choir;
