Obituary for Paul Dittman

Paul Dewayne Dittman, age 90 of Norfolk formerly of Randolph, died Wednesday July 19, 2017 at the Norfolk Veterans Home in Norfolk. He was born May 31, 1927 near Randolph, Nebraska the son of Paul and Elizabeth (Lackas) Dittman. He attended Randolph High School, after high school, he worked for Sherwood’s Meat Locker in Randolph as a meat cutter. He joined the United States Navy on May 17, 1945, as a Seaman First Class, he attended boot camp in Chicago, IL and was honorably discharged on June 1, 1946. He returned to Randolph working for Sherwood Meat Locker.

On August 5, 1951, Paul married Ruth Marie Schulz-Lodge at Norfolk, the couple made their home in Randolph. In 1954 Paul began driving routes for Roman’s Packing of Norfolk and then at Nebraskaland Beef working as a sales representative. In 1968 he purchased Sherwood Meat Locker and operated as Dittman’s Meat Market until 1979 when he sold the business to Mert Toelle. He continuing working part time as a Federal Meat Inspector in northeast Nebraska. He enjoyed the few years he lived in Verdigre. He entered the Norfolk Veterans Home in May 2016.

He was a member of United Methodist Church in Randolph; Randolph Community Club; He was a Master Mason at Plainview Lodge #204 A.F. & A.M; Member of Sesostris Shrine of Lincoln; Shriners International of Roca, NE; Life member of Alvin Kessler V.F.W. Post #5545 and American Legion Post #113 of Randolph; Paul was honored to fly with fellow Veterans to Washington, DC on the Nebraska Freedom Flight; Knights of Columbus in Norfolk;

Paul is survived by 2 children Don Dittman of Fremont; Deanna Dittman of Wayne; 3 Grandchildren Derek and Jessica Dittman of Hickman; Darin Dittman of Scottsdale, AZ; Kayla and Jeremy Reed of Hoskins; 5 Great Grandchildren Brynlee and Emma Dittman of Hickman; Dominic, Caden and Maya Reed of Hoskins.

Preceding Paul in death are his parents, his wife Ruth in 2003; 2 sisters LaVern Reed and Arlene Most.
