Obituary for Ruth Ann Vogel

Ruth Ann Vogel, age 93 of Stanton, died Saturday, October 28, 2017, at Stanton Health Center in Stanton. Ruth Ann Schultze was born on the family farm in Stanton County, Nebraska on November 2, 1923, the eldest daughter of Walter and Ruth Moderow Schultze.

Ruth Ann loved growing up on the farm and going to country school. She graduated from Stanton High School in 1941 and enrolled at Wayne State College. Ruth Ann continued her studies at the University of Nebraska College of Nursing in Omaha and graduated in 1945.

Ruth Ann was married to Morris Vogel at St John's Lutheran, Stanton on February 20, 1944.
Ruth Ann and Morris spent the next seventeen months apart while Morris was serving with the U.S. Army in the 110th Evac Hospital in Europe.

When Morris returned from the war in December of 1945, Ruth Ann worked as a nurse while Morris completed his education as a Funeral Director in Lincoln, Nebraska and Los Angeles, California.

Ruth Ann and Morris returned to Stanton in 1949. While raising their family, Ruth Ann taught Nurses Aide classes for Northeast Tech Community College. When the children were grown, she returned to full-time work as a school nurse for Stanton Community Schools. She loved visiting the rural schools and educating the children about healthy living.

Music followed Ruth Ann throughout her life, from playing the saxophone and organ to singing and teaching piano. Her creative passions radiate through paintings in her early years, crafting banners for church and designing a beautiful home with Morris.

Ruth Ann and Morris enjoyed traveling across the US and Europe. They also enjoyed golfing at Elkhorn Acres, throughout the US and especially in the Rio Grande Valley where they spent many winters.

Later in her life, Ruth Ann began to write poetry. She was a member of the Spindrift Poets Society. Her poem "As Ordered" is published in Cadet Nurse Stories and The Arduous Touch. Ruth Ann's poems tell stories of the times and of her life. They are treasured by her family and friends. Ruth Ann self-published two books of poetry, And the Mockingbird Did Not Forget and As Time Goes By.

After Morris' death in 2008, Ruth Ann, then in her late eighties, traveled with daughters to Orlando, Italy, Hawaii and the Rio Grande Valley in Texas
